The Great River Shakespeare Festival recently announced plans to host its first ever "Shakespeare for Young Actors" workshop July 10-20.
Designed to introduce students in grades 8-12 to the Festival and to principles of working on Shakespeare from an actor's point of view, participants will take classes in text analysis, movement, improvisation and scene study, attend performances of GRSF's 2008 season productions of "The Taming of the Shrew" and "The Merchant of Venice" and other events at the Festival for the duration of the program.
Led by GRSF actor Andrew Carlson and education coordinator Amrita Ramanan Mangus, the workshop will culminate with performance of scenes and monologues from plays by Shakespeare for family, friends, and GRSF company members.
Classes meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on campus at Winona State University. Fee for the program is $350, including tickets to productions and special events. Online applications are available at www.grsf.org.
