The Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center will host four events for youths to learn more about archaeology.

Introduction to Archaeology for grades 1-4 will allow children to participate in hands-on activities similar to those used by archaeologists in the field and learn how people in Wisconsin lived in the past. The class takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 28.

The Experimental Archaeology Program for grades 4-6 is an opportunity to learn about tools used by Native Americans and hike through the marsh while exploring how Wisconsin’s first people lived. This event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 29.

Introduction to Archaeology for grades 5-9 will give participants the opportunity to learn more about archaeology while working with recovered artifacts. Participants will learn how Native Americans survived using natural resources found in the area. The class runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.

The Middle School Field Experience is open to grades 5-9. Participants will work with professional archaeologists in the field. Participation in the Introduction to Archaeology for grades 5-9 is required. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 31, and Friday, Aug. 1.

For the first three programs listed, the cost is is $55, while the two-day class costs $130. Participants in all the classes should bring a lunch with a drink, snacks and water bottle. If the activities will be outdoors, they also should bring insect repellent and sun screen.
